W37 is a seaplane base located on American lake in Lakewood, WA. Back in the 60’s and 70’s the base was very active with planes refueling to go either north or south. At one time the base had dozens of seaplanes and sometimes even a few helicopters. Today the water runway, dock and base remain but the fuel dock and maintenance buildings are gone. W37 dock is open to seaplanes and can handle about 4 at a time. W37 Underlies the McChord AFB Class D Airspace and all radio calls are done to the tower prior to entering or leaving the airspace.
The W37 Fly-In will be on September 23 between 10:00am and 2:00pm. We will have a few boats and barges to shuttle people around. There will be some docks open to the planes as well as some beaches.
Use frequency 122.90. When arriving or departing through Ft Lewis or McChord Airspace contact the appropriate tower for Class-D clearance. See your charts for tower frequencies.
